CCU Sponsor Offers 15 $2,000 Scholarships

Applications for scholarship must be received by December 31, 2018.

Waukegan, IL, October 9, 2018: Consumers Cooperative Association (CCA), sponsor for Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $1.2 Billion, Waukegan, IL), announced the opportunity for fifteen (15) high school seniors to each earn a $2,000.00 scholarship. Applications are now available. Applicants must be on pace to graduate from high school by Spring 2019.

“CCA is very excited to announce an increase in the number of scholarships offered to help students reach their educational goals,” said Kathleen Crews, President of Consumers Cooperative Association. “The application provides students the opportunity to share their goals and aspirations, as well as present their academic credentials. Our Scholarship Committee is always impressed with the thoughtfulness and insight students provide during this process. We look forward to reviewing this year’s applications.”

The Association scholarship program generated a record number of applications last year, with students from 72 different high schools and 13 different states submitting applications. This year’s applicants will be evaluated in the following categories: academic performance, financial need and leadership abilities, including community involvement. High school students scheduled to graduate by the spring of 2019 are eligible to apply, provided the applicant and/or parent/guardian has been a Member of Consumers Credit Union for a minimum of one (1) year. Those awarded scholarships will be recognized at the credit union’s Annual Meeting on March 20, 2019.

Applications must include a transcript through the student’s junior year and a copy of first semester grades from the current academic year if available; otherwise, applicants should include their senior class schedules. Applications are available on the Consumers Cooperative Association tab of CCU’s website. The deadline to apply is December 31, 2018, providing ample time for interested students to apply.

“We encourage all eligible students to apply for one of the fifteen scholarships,” noted Sean M. Rathjen, CCU’s CEO. “CCU understands the importance of recognizing academic achievements of our youth, which is one reason both the credit union and the Association are so committed to advancing the higher education of tomorrow’s leaders. We’re proud to support this important initiative made possible by Consumers Cooperative Association, CCU’s sponsor.”
