Call For Nominations To Run For CCU’s Board of Directors

Member-owned credit union offers unique opportunity to provide governance

Waukegan, IL, September 18, 2018: There are many reasons people trust credit unions to handle their financial needs, but perhaps the most important reason is this: credit union Members are also the owners, with a voice in the governance of their financial institution. That voice includes the opportunity to run for the credit union’s Board of Directors. In that spirit, Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $1.25 Billion, Waukegan, IL) is accepting nominations for Members to run for its Board of Directors.

“The active involvement of our Member volunteers is a key difference between credit unions and other financial institutions,” said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU’s CEO.  “The ability to serve on our all-volunteer Board of Directors provides credit unions with a valuable grassroots perspective of Member needs. Our Board consists of thirteen (13) Members who come from many different backgrounds, and this diversity helps assure we consider opportunities and challenges from numerous points of view.”

Those elected to the Board of Directors will serve a three (3) year term and are required to attend meetings approximately once per month throughout the year, as well as serve on Board Committees. “Our Board volunteers provide unique insight on the future direction and governance of the Credit Union,” continued Rathjen. “That’s one of the many reasons we encourage Members to consider serving on our Board and we look forward to receiving many applications from qualified Members.”

Members interested in applying to serve on CCU’s Board should send a statement of intent via e-mail to [email protected], or by mail to Consumers Cooperative Credit Union, Attention: Nominating Committee, 1075 Tri-State Pkwy Suite #850 Gurnee, IL. 60031-1811. Candidates must include their name, address plus daytime and evening phone numbers in order to be considered. Candidates must be a CCU Member for at least one year on or before the date of election to be eligible. The deadline for applying is 5:00 pm (CDT) on Friday, November 2, 2018. The election is scheduled to be held at the Member-owned credit union’s Annual Meeting on March 20, 2019.
