Online Security with Consumers Credit Union

A Word From CCU
Back to Blog
It’s comforting to know that your financial institution has your back when it comes to protecting your money. That is why Consumers Credit Union provides 24-hour fraud monitoring services and offers a number of tools to help protect our members from fraud.

Here are a few of the things you can take advantage of to stay protected from card fraud:

EMV Chip Card Technology: Consumers Credit Union VISA Debit and Credit Cards are enhanced with EMV smart chip technology. When used at chip-enabled terminals, unique, one-time codes are created for each transaction making each card virtually impossible to duplicate. Chip cards offer enhanced fraud protection, are accepted worldwide, and are easy to use.

Mobile Wallet: Use Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay to securely make purchases in-store with a tap of your app, without sharing your credit and debit card information with the merchant.

Debit Card Alerts: Sign up for Consumers Credit Union’s free Alerts & Notifications service. You can register for Card Alerts through CCU Online Banking. Simply log-in and click on ‘Manage Profile’, then ‘Manage Alerts’. Under ‘Add/Edit Debit Card Alerts’ select ‘Manage Debit Card Alerts’.

Go Paperless with eDocuments: If you haven’t already, consider signing up for Consumers Credit Union's eDocument solutions. eDocuments can’t be lost in the mail or stolen from your mailbox. eDocuments is an online service which securely stores your account statements and notices from Consumers Credit Union at no charge. Receive notifications when new documents are posted for you by e-mail or text message.

Check Your Wallet: Carry only cards you need at any given time in case of theft or loss.

Be ATM Aware: Use your hand to cover the ATM keypad when entering your PIN, even if no one is around. Thieves may conceal cameras on or near the ATM to capture your movements. Check ATMs for skimming devices before use. A skimming device is a small card reader that fits over the existing card reader and has the ability to save a user’s card number and PIN.

Use Caution on Calls: Avoid giving out your credit, debit, or any bank account number over the phone unless you initiate the call.

Contact Information: It’s important to keep your contact information updated with Consumers Credit Union, including your mobile phone number and email address, so we can reach you as quickly as possible if there is an issue with your account. Remember, if your card is lost or stolen, report it immediately.

Secure Messaging: If you have questions, you can contact Consumers Credit Union in a secure message from your Online Banking. A Consumers Credit Union representative will reply, via secure message. To compose a message, please log into your online banking and follow these steps: Go to Manage Profile -> View Messages -> Compose New.
