Once a Member, Always A Member . . .

Membership with CCU stays with you as long as you like.  You can move away from the area (out of state or across the ocean), change employers, retire, get married – you never have to give up your membership at CCU. We will be there to help you along the way.  As your financial needs change, we will tailor a customized assortment of services to suit your lifestyle.

This approach is reflected by our mission:  to provide quality service to Members.

CCU is one of the largest credit unions in Illinois. We currently have more than 50,700 Members and $500+ million in assets.  The credit union is owned by and democratically controlled by our Members, who elect our all-volunteer Board of Directors.  The Board, in turn, represent our Members/owners on policy decisions.

Why Are Credit Unions Different?

Credit unions are different in several ways.  First and foremost, credit unions are “cooperatives:”  Members who share a common bond join together in a cooperative form and structure to encourage savings and to make loans to each other.  Credit unions provide a healthy, not-for-profit alternative to financial service providers motivated by profit.

After ensuring reserves, credit unions distribute surplus funds to members as dividends, reduced interest on loans and improved services.  Members are owners, not just "customers," and only Members can use the services of the credit union.  In addition to the Boards of Directors, unpaid volunteers also serve on Credit Committees and Supervisory Committees.  This spirit of cooperation and volunteerism are the backbone of the credit union movement.
